Understanding the sessions

The EVO Curriculum is a season-long, technical development program

Sessions are designed to maximise technical, visual, spatial and decision-making attributes of players. Sessions are split into themed progressions:

Manoeuvres - movements establishing comfort on the ball

Eliminations & Connections - developing 1v1 elimination skills and finding connections with teammates

Small Group Gameplay - transferring learned techniques into game environments. Incorporating defensive understanding (protection), decision-making and goals (outcomes)

Sessions run approximately 45 minutes. There is freedom to add your own aspects to each session, add more gameplay etc, adapting to suit your players.

EVO tips for great training

For a full season program, progress through sessions 1-16

Adapt exercises to size of group and space available

If working with larger groups, set up multiple stations of each exercise

Ideally, set up exercises before session starts, maximising training time

Encourage competition aspects to keep players engaged in technical repetitions

Emphasise practising skills during waiting time - increasing skill development and encouraging “eyes up” ball control
